Is it Suppose to Storm All Memorial Day Weekend?

YES

Lakeland approaching 100-year record for May rainfall as potential tropical storm brews in Gulf.

LAKELAND — Good luck figuring out when to schedule a barbecue this holiday weekend with a 60 to 70 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms forecast through Memorial Day by the National Weather Service.

And then there’s the current weather system organizing southeast of the Yucatan Peninsula, known as Invest 90L, which has the potential to add another major element to one of the wettest months in Polk County history.

On Thursday, the National Hurricane Center increased the chances to 90 percent that the developing weather system will become a tropical depression or tropical storm by late Saturday over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico.
